From Caladesi Island to Honeymoon Island, every beach in Palm Harbor is unique in its way. Palm Harbor is also fairly close to Clearwater Beach. Roughly a 25-minute drive so you can enjoy everything this area offers.

The beaches have crystal-clear water and beautiful white sand.  They are perfect for a beach vacation whether you want to relax, sunbathe, play games, or enjoy the sun setting over the Gulf of Mexico.

Where Is Palm Harbor Florida located?

Palm Harbor and Palm Harbor Florida Beaches are in Pinellas County located on the West Coast on the Gulf of Mexico. It is north of St. Petersburg and west of Tampa Bay. 

How To Get To Palm Harbor Florida And The Beaches

There are a few airports near Palm Harbor making it easy to get there. The closest is St. Petersburg which is a short drive of roughly 13 miles.

The next closest airport is Tampa which is just under 16 miles away followed by Sarasota/Bradenton at 50 miles away.

For those driving, the best way from a northern direction would be either I-75 South, or if you are coming from a location on the Gulf, you would arrive via US-19 S/US-98.

From the south, you would take the Florida Turnpike to I-75/I-275. 

​Is Palm Harbor A Good Place To Live And Visit?

There sure are! This is actually the perfect place to search for shells and more. Tropical current from the Gulf wash up many different types of shells for you to add to your collection.

What are top Palm Harbor Beaches Florida?

Now that you know all about Palm Harbor Beaches, it’s time to dig into the top beaches in this area. These are my favorites in no specific order.

Caladesi Island State Park

Caladesi Island State Park is one of the most beautiful and untouched state parks in the Sunshine State.  It is a barrier island that is only accessible by private boat. That alone makes it even more special. 

There are boat slips and a marina for private vessels.  If you do not own your own boat, you will need to purchase tickets and ferry from Honeymoon Island State Park. 

The beautiful park island is known for its crystal-clear water, white sand, and abundance of wildlife. Enjoy swimming year-round as well as snorkeling.

You can spot dolphins, manatees, and various bird species while exploring the island.  The island has a few amenities like picnic shelters and picnic tables, restrooms, and showers.

If you’re looking for a more secluded spot, you can take a short walk to the north end of the island. The island is perfect for nature lovers, and there are many hiking trails that you can explore.

Caladesi Island State Park is the perfect place for a great time on vacation.  There is also Caladesi Café for food and as well as a gift shop for gifts. 

You can rent a kayak or a paddleboard and explore the island’s mangrove trails. The island is also famous for its fishing opportunities. 

You can catch a variety of fish like snook, redfish, and trout. The island is perfect for a day trip, but if you want to spend more time, there are campsites available on the island.

Opening soon is Caladesi Discovery Center, an observation deck and tower. Absolutely one of the best day trips you can make from nearby Clearwater or St. Petersburg. 

Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Island State Park is another breathtaking Florida State Park in Palm Harbor. The island is known for its powdery white sand and calm waters.

To reach the island by car, you will take the Dunedin Causeway. Keep in mind there is a parking fee of $8 per car. 

This beautiful island has many amenities like picnic tables, restrooms, showers, and even a dog beach for your fur friend. The island has many hiking trails that you can explore, and there is a nature center that offers guided tours.

Honeymoon Island State Park is perfect for beach activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. The island has a few vendors that rent out equipment, and there are many fishing spots available. 

You can stop at the snack bar, Cafe Honeymoon, for a snack, beer, or wine. Keep in mind you cannot take alcohol on the beach.

Anclote Key Preserve State Park

Anclote Key Preserve State Park is another gorgeous Florida State Park that is only accessible by boat located off the coast of Tarpon Springs. This hidden gem is a barrier island 

The 11,773-acre park on the island is known for its crystal-clear water, white sand, and abundance of wildlife. You can spot dolphins, manatees, and at least 43 bird species while exploring the island. 

On the southern end of the island, a lighthouse built in 1887 stands guard. The island has a few amenities like picnic tables, restrooms, and showers.

Anclote Key Preserve State Park is perfect for beach activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. The island has a few vendors that rent out equipment, and there are many fishing spots available. 

The island is perfect for a day trip, but if you want to spend more time, there are campsites available on the island. The ferry will not drop you off on the island, however. You must have your own vessel. 

Fred Howard Park Beach

Fred Howard Park Beach is a Pinellas County Park as well as another popular beach in Palm Harbor that is perfect for families.

You will find plenty of things to keep the kids busy as there are many activities available for children, like a playground and a splash pad.

You can also launch and enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. The beach has a few vendors that rent out equipment, and there are many fishing spots available. The beach is perfect for a day trip, and there are many restaurants nearby where you can grab a bite.

Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife. Bald eagles, gopher tortoises, and fox squirrels all call this park and beach with the soft sands home. 

Crystal Beach and Wall Springs Park

Crystal Beach in Palm Harbor Palm Harbour) is roughly 10 miles from Clearwater. The beach community is actually one of the first in Pinellas County.

You cannot go wrong visiting anywhere in this area with its beautiful white sandy beaches. 

Nearby Wall Springs Park on Desoto Boulevard is another hidden gem in Palm Harbor. The park is known for its natural springs you can view from the boardwalk. This spring was once a spa and bathing area, but you can no longer swim here.

The park has many hiking trails that you can explore as well as an observation tower where you can see the Gulf of Mexico. The park is perfect for nature lovers, and there are many picnic areas available.

Activities to do on Palm Harbor’s beaches – kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing

Palm Harbor’s beaches offer many activities including water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. You can rent equipment from vendors available on the beaches. 

The beaches mentioned above are fantastic and many are perfect for fishing also. You can catch a variety of fish like snook, redfish, and trout. 

Historic Downtown Palm Harbor

Be sure to make time to visit the historic area of Palm Harbor. Here you will find bars, restaurants, and possibly a few food trucks to try during a special event. The historic buildings include the Palm Harbor Museum is located in the historic Hartley House. 

Best time to visit Palm Harbor’s beaches

The best time to visit Palm Harbor’s beaches is from March to May and from September to November. The weather is pleasant during these months, and the crowds are less.

The beaches can get crowded during the peak season, which is from June to August. The winter months are also a good time to visit, but the water can be chilly.
