Why over 50 is the perfect time for adventure travel.

I used to think 50 was old. Shoot I used to think every one over the age of 35 was old. That is until I reached all of these landmark ages. Now at 59, I’m still plugging along trying new things and going new places. Living the adventure travel lifestyle as best I can.

Did you notice the clarifier as “best I can?” That’s right. You won’t see me jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or hanging from a rubber band into a canyon 1000 feet below me. Honestly I’m not that brave.

What you will see me doing are things I’ve never done before. I’ve experienced so many things since I turned 50. Completing a triathlon to learning to kayak to zip lining to adventure runs to camping on a beach. And I’ve had a blast doing every single one.

Adventure travel doesn’t have to be extreme.

Adventure travel doesn’t need to be extreme. It’s moving you out of your comfort zone and the perfect time to do that is in the 2nd half of our lives. If you have never done it, it’s new for you. Experiencing those butterflies in your tummy as you look out toward the horizon is a wonderful thing. It reminds us we’re alive!

Zip-lining was a blast!

I have enjoyed every thing I’ve experienced in my 50’s but zip lining has to be one of my favorites activities so far. Whoa was I nervous! How could I be certain that wire would hold me? I’m not a waif of a girl you know. Zing from one platform to the next. But then I had to hold at the next platform waiting for the rest of my party. Yikes! Looking down shows how far up in the trees we are. Then I had to rappel down from the tree? Um what? How am I supposed to do that one?

But you know what? I did it. And I had the time of my life doing it. After those first two platforms, I felt as free as a bird flying. Everyone in my party that day was over 50 and the feeling was unanimous. Let’s do it again.

Don’t let a number define who you are, how you feel or what you should or should not do. YOU define that. Pick an adventure and simply do it. If you find when you get there that it’s not for you, you don’t do it. It’s that simple. But I hope you give it a go. I’m glad I did and look forward to many more adventure travel trips in my lifetime.
