How To make Jimmy Buffett’s Perfect Margarita

Love margaritas? Me too. My favorite is Jimmy Buffett’s perfect margarita but to be honest? I love ALL margaritas. Every single one which is why there are so many recipes for margaritas on this travel blog.

Jimmy Buffett lived the ultimate beach bum life, so I wanted to celebrate that a little bit today with this margarita recipe. Lately all I have been seeing are scam knock-offs of shirts, cups and more that do not even spell this genius man’s name correctly.

Jimmy Buffett's perfect margarita recipe

The first time I tried the perfect margarita was….you guessed it. At Margaritaville. And I was hooked.

That was in my favorite beach destination, Panama City Beach, at Pier Park many years ago. Now when I travel and visit that city’s Margaritaville, you can bet that is the margarita I order.

That continued as I visited the Key West location right after Jimmy Buffett passed away. So here you go. The recipe for the perfect margarita. You will love it.

Jimmy Buffett’s Perfect Margarita Ingredients

Of course, you know the number one ingredient is tequila, but there are a few more. They are:

1 ounce gold tequila. My choice is Jose Cuervo

1/2 ounces silver tequila. My choice is Patron.

1/2 ounce Triple Sec

1/2 ounce Cointreau orange Liquor (If you cannot find Cointreau, increase the Triple Sec in its place).

1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice. Fresh squeezed is so much better than anything else. Trust me.

Lime wedges.

Jimmy Buffett’s Perfect Margarita Directions

Very simple. First use a lime wedge to rim the glass then press the glass into salt. I do use margarita salt, but you can use whatever is most convenient.

Pour everything else, except the lime wedges, into a shaker cup with ice. Shake it up.

Strain into your margarita glass with salt and garnish with a lime wedge.

That’s it. Pretty simple right? Enjoy. Salute!
