Also, just offshore from Bradenton Beach is the Regina Sugar Barge.  The Regina wreck also known as Molasses Barge and Sugar Wreck, was being towed north to New Orleans from Cuba loaded with molasses.

A storm in the Gulf of Mexico caused the barge to break loose from the towboat and drift toward the shore. It lodged on a sandbar off the coast of Bradenton Beach. 

The Regina Wreck was named the 10th addition to Florida’s 12 Underwater Archaeological Preserves. Today the wreck site is roughly 247 feet long and one of the best spots for scuba divers off the Gulf Coast in the Sunshine State.
