For nature enthusiasts, Micanopy offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. The town is surrounded by lush forests and is located near several state parks, including Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park.
I have hiked all of these parks, and they are some of the best trails in the area. Great for beginners too.
For Paynes Prairie, there are several trailheads. My favorite is the LaChua Trail, but it is in Gainesville, not Micanopy.
From Micanopy, your best entrance is at Paynes Prairie Visitor Center. Go to the entrance at 100 Savannah Blvd. Micanopy FL 32667.
The address for the visitor center reads as Unnamed Road, Micanopy, FL 32667 for some reason so go to the 100 Savannah Blvd entrance.
