Camping. I have been camping most of my life, but glamping in the Florida Everglades National Park? That was a new experience for me.

I honestly had no idea what to expect. When I laid my eyes on the Ecotents at Flamingo Campground in the Everglades, I thought okay, looks like a tent.

But it was much more than a tent. Think spacious tents with comfy beds, fans, lights and ports to charge your phones.

Camping, but with a luxurious twist. Glamping is perfect for those who love nature but really don’t want to primitive camp in a tent without power and water. Or have to find a tree outside to use for the restroom.

The Florida Everglades is a nature lover’s paradise. It’s a unique ecosystem teeming with wildlife, from alligators to exotic birds, and offers stunning landscapes that are truly one-of-a-kind.

Glamping in the Everglades allows you to immerse yourself in this natural wonder, all while enjoying the comforts of a luxury retreat. It’s an experience that combines adventure and relaxation, offering a unique way to connect with nature.

In addition to glamping, there are other accommodations to suit every taste and budget. RV camping, primitive camping as well as a new hotel near the marina are all available but plan ahead.

Here are a few options you might consider:

• Luxury Tents: These are not your average camping tents. They’re spacious, furnished with comfortable beds, and often come with amenities like electricity and private bathrooms.
• RVs: Have an RV? Pull into your spot and plug-in. You are ready to explore.
• Primitive Campsites. Near the pull-through RV spots, are several spots for primitive, tent camping. What this means is no electricity or running water. There are bathhouses nearby for the restroom and shower.

Yes, the Everglades is a year-round destination, but the best time for glamping depends on what you’re looking for. We glamped the beginning of April and it was already getting quite hot during the day.

Even though it was warm during the day, at night inside our tent, it was rather cool. The second night we did zip up the windows.

The dry season, from November to March, is the most popular time to visit. The weather is cooler and less humid, making it perfect for outdoor activities. It is also the best time for wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources.

However, if you’re looking for a quieter experience, consider visiting during the wet season, from April to October. There are fewer visitors, and the landscape is lush and green. Just be prepared for afternoon showers and higher humidity.

Oh, and mosquitos! So many mosquitos, you would think they will pick you up and carry you away. Be sure to pack bug spray.

I use one with DEET that you can get here on Amazon: Ben’s Tick & Bug Repellent By far the best bug spray I have ever used, and I camp and hike a lot. Be sure to put it on immediately before going outdoors.

Packing for a glamping trip in the Everglades is a bit different from packing for a traditional camping trip.

You’ll still need the basics like comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and a hat for sun protection. But since you’re glamping, you can also bring along some extras for comfort and convenience. Here’s a quick list of items to consider:

• Luxury bedding and pillows are provided, but you may want to pack an extra blanket for a cozy sleep in case the evenings get cool.
• Portable coffee maker for your morning brew
• Eco-friendly toiletries and bug spray
• Binoculars for wildlife viewing
• Portable charger for your devices. There are ports inside the Glamping Tents to charge your phone.
