Below is some information and what to know about this fascinating island.
Islamorada: The Key and Weather
The first thing you notice once you clear the green tropical sides of A1A as you drive into the Florida Keys, is the water. Blues that range from aqua to turquoise and more.
Islamorada, often referred to as the “Village of Islands,” is situated amidst those blue and turquoise waters and lush greenery. There is a reason, they call the Florida Keys heaven on earth.
The key Islamorada is actually made up of four islands. These are Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, and Lower Matecumbe Key.
Its tropical climate is characterized by warm temperatures year-round, making it an ideal destination for those seeking sunshine and pleasant weather. During the winter months, the temps are around 75-80, with cooler and warmer days mixed in.
In summer, it ranges from 80 to 90 degrees and can be much warmer. Evening temps, when it is usually cooler throughout the country, remains around 75 to 80 degrees.
Coral Reefs
One of the distinguishing features of Islamorada and around several other Keys such as Key Largo are the vibrant coral reefs. These reefs and water surrounding the Key are home to some of the most magnificent marine life ecosystems.
Snorkelers and divers flock to popular spots like Alligator Reef and Indian Key Fill. This allows them to view up close the colors and life underwater that the coral reefs offer.
This area, including the underwater world and reef near Islamorada is a testament to the region’s strong commitment to preserving its natural environment and underwater treasures.
