Weight loss: The truth hurts.

Ugh! Seriously? What the h#ll happened to my metabolism? And what about my belly? I can literally run CIRCLES around kids half my age (technically they’re not kids :P). Why can I not lose this flipping weight? Does this sound like your world right now?

It’s time to be completely honest with you. For the past few years, I have been battling literally BATTLING my weight. After my hysterectomy which resulted in immediate menopause, it seemed no matter what I did, it would not budge. Keto yes I lost weight and it seems to work for a lot of folks but for me it raised my cholesterol to dangerous levels. Whole 30 yes I did lose weight but it was hard to stay on track because it was too strict for my lifestyle. Nutrition program from a trainer – have to eat too much which also didn’t fit with my lifestyle and daily schedule. And the list goes on and on. You name it, I tried it. Even worse? My metabolism is like a snail going uphill through molasses. Yeah pretty much non-existent.

Does this sound like what you’re dealing with? Are you going through menopause or have you had a hysterectomy and it seems the weight is coming on especially in your belly? Trying to find relief from all of those menopausal symptoms INCLUDING the weight gain? If so, I completely understand and I’m here to tell you not to give up.

I have literally tried everything out there including the latest and greatest lotions and potions. At one point I was pretty desperate to take control of this belly! I can tell you straight up, while they may initially work, what ends up happening is as soon as you return to what is “normal” for you, the weight comes back on. PLUS MORE! That’s the scary part, I gained more weight than what I initially lost. Seriously? I’m busting my a@@ for months to lose a few pounds and the first day I allow myself a cheat, the weight comes SCREAMING back.

Then one day I thought to myself what if what I was doing was making the problem worse? What if I really could lose weight in my upper 50’s?

Is it even possible to lose weight after menopause?

Guess what! It is. Here are a few tips that have helped me and that may help you right now today:

  1. Water. You absolutely have to drink half your body weight in ounces every single day. No exceptions. So if you weigh 200 pounds, that is 100 ounces of water. A new habit for me is before I have ANYTHING including coffee in the morning, I drink 20 ounces of water.
  2. Dealing with cravings. This is one that hits me every so often and when it does and I give in to it, WATCH OUT. Whether it’s salty or sugar if I don’t fight the craving, all bets are off. And it never goes away even if I give in to it. What happens is it triggers stronger cravings especially for sugar so it is better that I don’t indulge at all. What I have found out though is that when I am dealing with cravings, it’s because I’m lacking a mineral or something in my diet. Taking a good multi-vitamin (this is what I take: Triad Orange).

In addition, I have been following a good, common sense approach to nutrition and weight loss that is FINALLY working for me. As I write this, I am down 7 pounds even after the holiday weekend splurges.
