Think there is a universal formula for losing weight? Really? Tell me what it is if you’ve figured it out because I will tell you there is no one size fits all program.
Rant warning – don’t say I didn’t warn you. If one more person tells me how “easy” it is to lose weight, I’m going to bop them upside the head. Further if one more person tries to sell me the latest and greatest weight loss “product” whether it’s a pill, a potion or something else, they’re getting two bops.
Is there a magic formula for losing weight?
If it were as simple as eating less calories than you consume, this chick right here would be lucky to weigh 100 pounds because I’m the queen of skipping meals. On the flip side, if eating every two hours were the winning ticket, we’d all be grazing and the scale would show pounds dropping off us every day. Do these two eating styles work? Absolutely for some people. For others, not so much.
See a pattern here? If not, let me help you. What works for one person is not guaranteed to work for another. There are so many things unique to every one of us that could affect weight loss. So where should we focus if we want to lose weight? I’d like to start right there with those 2 words – losing weight. I also recommend you read this: Big Fat Lies About Weight Loss

Let’s look at this another way and take the focus off weight loss. Instead let’s focus on what we can do today to live a HEALTHIER lifestyle. Some of us LOVE to exercise. I fall into that category so it is easy for me to stay active. Others of us LOVE to get in the kitchen and try new recipes. (I definitely do not fall into that category and try to avoid burning down the house as much as possible.)
If living a healthier lifestyle is something you are trying to do, why don’t we start by focusing on what we LIKE to do. Wouldn’t that make things a little bit easier? If you are like me and find fitness the easier part of the two, get up and get moving. If you like to piddle around the kitchen, get in there and work on creating healthier recipes.
Where should you start?
When you are starting your healthy lifestyle journey, nutrition and fitness are interchangeable. What matters is that you pick one and get started. Want to know what else is important? Accountability.
Accountability is what is going to help you push through when you want to give up. And yes you will want to give up at one point or another. Having someone you are accountable to will help you put one foot in front of the other and keep going. That’s why many people prefer working with personal trainers. They hold them accountable so they reach their goals.
As humans we don’t like to let someone down. Think about this way. You have made a promise to someone to do something after work. That time arrives and you’re exhausted but you know that person is waiting for you. What are the chances you will cancel? You probably won’t.
The same can be said for your accountability partner. When you know someone is waiting for you, you are less likely to pick up the phone and call or text that you’re not coming. And you know what? You’ll feel better when you’ve finished so push yourself and go.
Today pick one – nutrition or fitness. Whichever is easier for you. Next find someone who will hold you accountable and start moving forward toward living a healthier lifestyle. The weight loss will be a pleasant side benefit but what you’ll notice first is how much better you will feel. Have an amazing week!
To your health,
Denise
