Think You Can’t? You Are Right. Positive Mindset is Key!

Our brains and minds are amazing things.  It keep our bodies functioning without us being aware of it. When was the last time you had to think about breathing? A few cool facts about our brains:

  1. Our brain processes information at about 268 miles per hour.
  2. Did you know that you can’t tickle yourself because your brain can distinguish between your touch and someone else’s touch.
  3. And one of the most important facts about our minds and brain is the mind-body connection.  One estimate is that 50-70% of visits to the doctor for what physically ails us may have been brought on by psychological factors.

The following is a very true quote by Henry Ford:

“Whether you think you can OR think you can’t, you’re right.”

Take a moment and let that sink in.  Pretty powerful quote right?  If YOU believe something is not possible or is out of reach, it will be for YOU because you have already talked yourself out of being able to attain that goal.  As humans if we believe that we can do what we choose to do, our actions will follow that train of thought and we will move forward towards the goal.  Unfortunately, if we think we will never be able to attain or succeed at reaching our goals, we probably won’t because we will stop ourselves right with that thought.  This is where positive mindset comes into play.

Some of our beliefs are internal to us yet others may have been brought to us by another. For example, you have thought about trying something new for you – maybe you have always dreamed of being a writer but you’ve been told over and over that it’s very hard to be a published author and that most people never succeed in getting works published.  If you hear that enough, you are less likely to sit down and write that article, essay, poem, or book.  You won’t even try and that dream will fade and become a distant memory.

Another example is our health.  Your doctor may tell you that your blood pressure is getting a little bit high. What will you do? That just might depend on the people around you.  Everyone has an opinion about what you should do and those opinions might not be the best ones unfortunately.  If your family or friends have high blood pressure and automatically chose to go on medication without making any lifestyle changes, you may think that’s what you should do also. However, the best thing you can do for your health is to talk to your doctor about ALL methods you can use to get your blood pressure in check so that you might not need to go on medication. It’s all in how your mind, with internal and external influences, approaches and solves the problem in front of you.

We are entering a new year and good news for us – our minds like clean slates so this is the perfect time to renew those dreams and hopes.  It’s also the time of resolution and change.  And change is a good thing.  Take a moment and think about where you are and where you want to be in 12 months then take the first step to get there.  After all, no matter what your goal, the first step is the most important. Believe you can and you WILL.

To your health,

Denise
